Wild Rose Country Puppies offers convenient delivery options when your new puppy is ready for his/her new home.
If you live in Calgary, we can meet you in Red Deer.
If you live in Edmonton, we can meet you in either Red Deer or Camrose.
If you live in Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, etc., we can meet you in Strathmore.
If you wish to pick up your puppy locally, we will meet you in Stettler.
In person delivery usually takes about a half hour. We like to go over the Contracts and Client Instructions with you, so that you are comfortable. We will provide you with some food that your puppy has been eating to get you by until you can purchase a bag of your own. All our dogs and puppy drink bottled water. You need to have it on hand. If you plan to change your puppy over to tap water (which we don’t suggest), you need to do it slowly over a week or so, gradually adding more and more tap water to the bottled until puppy is drinking only water from the tap.
If you live in an area that is further away from those mentioned above, we recommend shipping your puppy instead of a long car ride. It is easier on the puppy to fly than ride a long way.
Please see our Shipping information page for more details.
When delivery is to take place, please bring the following items with you:
- Travel crate
- Bungee straps
- Extra towels
- Paper towels
- Plastic garbage bags
- Newspaper
- Wet washcloth or “baby wipes”
- Small bowl for water
- Bottled water
Even though your puppy has been taken in a car for outings, it isn’t unusual for the puppy to drool and/or upchuck during his ride home. You need to be prepared to clean the puppy up with “baby wipes”, and add a new towel to the travel crate. A travel crate is the best way to transport your new puppy for comfort and safety. We find that if we elevate the carrier to that the puppy can see out, car sickness is sometimes minimized.
Always use bungee straps to secure the travel crate. Not only is this a good safety measure but it also minimizes movement which helps the puppy maintain equilibrium and thus lessons car sickness.
On a long drive, remember than your puppy should be put on the newspapers every hour or so to see if he/she needs to go as well as offering a cool drink of water. Remember to put the newspaper on the floor of the car, not outside! Your puppy is not fully vaccinated until 16 weeks…and ideally you should wait 10 days after this vaccination before allowing puppy into public outdoor spaces.
DO NOT give your puppy any kind of travel sickness or anti-nausea drug.
Take your time driving home. Talk to your puppy. Wiggle your fingers through the carrier door and allow him/her to lick them. Speak softly and quietly. Don’t have the radio turned up too loud, or the heat. The travel carrier is a cozy place for your puppy, but it can be hot, especially on a sunny day. If you need to turn on the air conditioner or open a window, make sure that is doesn’t blow directly on the puppy, but above.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding delivery of your puppy, make sure to bring it up when arrangements are being made.
